On 7th March 2019, we celebrated and honoured women who are making a mark on our communities and nation. More than 120 women were nominated from various sectors and 15 were awarded for their exceptional work. The event was graced by Honourable Margaret Mwanakatwe MP, Minister of Finance. She commended Stanbic Bank Zambia for “their Women’s Banking proposition and their efforts in complimenting government’s drive in increasing women’s access to finance.” The event was also attended by Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor – Administration Dr Tukiya Kankasa Mabula. The Stanbic Bank Board Chairman Dr Austin Mwape, board members, the Chief Executive Leina Gabaraane and other members of staff came out to support the awards event.
The Woman of the Year award went to Dr Sharon Kapambwe for her work in cancer prevention. The Lifetime Achievement award recipient, Sr Kieran Monahan for her work in the education sector. The Chairman’s award recipient Nina Tapula who was the first female pilot in the Zambia Airforce. Dr Maria Akani received the Health award for her contributions to mental health. Other recipients are Bwalya Nkumbula for the Digital award, Racheal Kundanji for the Sports award, Grace Mutembo for the Infrastructure award, Glenda Kasonde Mwandama received the Mining award. Rosetta Chabala was awarded the Manufacturing award, Nancy Handabile the Film award, Maimbolwa Mulikelela the Information and Broadcasting award, Fazila Lulat was the recipient of the Entrepreneur award, Esther Chungu the Songbird award, Chisenga Zulu Chilala the Educator award, Faith Masupa Kalungia the Community award and Zindaba Hanzala the Agriculture award.
A Special Award was also given to a group of women for all the work they are doing to improve the policy environment in the women’s banking sphere. Thank you to the Bank of Zambia – Non Banks Financial Supervision Department for all the work you are doing.
It was a great evening wth good food and plenty to drink. We run a raffle courtesy of Intercontinental Hotel who provided three months gym subscription to set the winner on their fitness journey for the year and dinner for two in the Savannah restaurant and Proflight who provided two flights to any Proflight destination as part of the raffle prizes. Nandos was gracious enough to provide the award recipients with bottles of some of their yummiest sauces, a chicken recipe and a voucher for free flame grilled chicken meal with a decadent milkshake and a hamper from Lever Brothers who also provided free bars of the luxurious Dove soap to every person that attended the awards event. We had our deco partner Lafe Classic Functions to give the event the glitz and glamour that is essential to complete an event of that nature.
